A buy feature is a paid shortcut: you pay a set price, counted in multiples of your stake, and the slot drops you into its special round without the spins that would normally trigger it. This page works out what that price means in pesos, what the shortcut skips, and what the UK regulator said about it, so you can decide before you pay. It belongs to the wider slot game online comparison that shows how to choose a game from published figures.
What a buy feature costs in stakes
The price of a buy feature is a multiple of the stake you have selected. The multiple is set by the game and printed on its own buy screen, so read it there each time.
Here is a worked example with round numbers chosen only for illustration, not the price of any real game. Say a game priced its buy at 100 times the stake, and your stake is ₱20.
| Step | Working | Result |
|---|---|---|
| One buy at ₱20 stake | 20 x 100 | ₱2,000 |
| Same ₱2,000 as ordinary spins | 2,000 / 20 | 100 spins |
| Five buys in a row | 2,000 x 5 | ₱10,000 |
| Same stake raised to ₱50 | 50 x 100 | ₱5,000 per buy |
The same sum answers a practical question: what you pay for one entry is what would have funded a hundred ordinary spins in this example. If the round pays less than the entry price, the buy loses money, and nothing in the buy screen promises otherwise.
What a buy feature skips
A buy feature skips the base game, which is the stretch where you wait for the trigger symbols. That wait is also where the game’s free-spin and scatter odds do their work, so the price you pay is the game charging up front for the thing you would otherwise wait for. For the shape of the pay-out stream either way, read the volatility meaning in slot terms, because a high-volatility round that you buy repeatedly produces long runs of entries that pay less than they cost.
In the example above, the skipped stretch is worth 100 spins at a ₱20 stake (₱2,000 divided by ₱20). A buy feature does not skip the game’s maths, though: the paytable still decides what the round pays.
The UK regulator’s position (a foreign reference)
The UK Gambling Commission is Britain’s regulator, so what follows is a labelled foreign reference and not Philippine law.
On 17 January 2020 the Commission reminded online operators to check their games against its transparency and safety standards. It said six operators were offering ‘feature buy-in’ on slots-style games, which gave customers the option of staking significant amounts to reach the bonus feature without playing the initial stages, and that one game was charging more than £3,000 to enter. The Commission cited two technical requirements, RTS 3A (the rules must be easily available and understandable before a customer commits to gamble) and RTS 14A (products must not actively encourage customers to chase losses or increase their stake). Its page says all six operators removed the element.
In a separate press release of 2 February 2021 the Commission announced rules for online slots, including a ban on features that speed up play or give the illusion of control, spin speeds faster than 2.5 seconds and auto-play. It gave the reason as slot features associated with increased intensity of play and loss of player control. That release does not name feature buy-in, so it is background and not a ruling on buy options.
For the Philippines, PAGCOR’s published pages are the place to read the local rules. The game’s info screen shows whether a buy option exists in the title you are about to play.
Checking a buy option before you pay
- Open the game’s info screen and find the buy price as a multiple of your stake.
- Multiply it by your stake, as in the example above, and compare the result with your session budget.
- Try the game without staking where a demo exists. What demo mode shows first explains what a demo shows and what it leaves out.
- Ask whether the entry price fits the budget twice over, because a single buy rarely ends a session.
In this site’s data, Sweet Bonanza lists a bonus buy next to tumbling reels and free spins with multipliers. The JILI titles in the data list no buy option, and new JILI games on the studio’s list shows the latest releases to check the same way.
Before you pay for any shortcut, know how the game counts wins in the first place: how 243 ways are counted shows the multiplication behind a ways grid. Play only if you are 21 or over, and set your limit before you open the buy screen.
FAQ
What is a buy feature in a slot?
It is an option that lets you pay a set price, quoted as a multiple of your stake, to enter the game's special round straight away instead of waiting for the symbols that normally trigger it. The price is shown on the game's own screen.
Does a buy feature improve my chances of winning?
No. It changes how you reach the round, and you pay for that shortcut up front. What the round then pays is still decided by the game's own maths, so the entry price is a cost you carry whether the round pays well or not.
Is the buy feature allowed in the UK?
The UK Gambling Commission's January 2020 warning to online operators covered feature buy-in on slots-style games, and its page says all six operators it contacted removed it. That is a UK position, shown here as a foreign reference and not as Philippine law.
Do JILI slots have a buy feature?
None of the JILI slots in this site's data list one. Of the sixteen titles this site documents, Sweet Bonanza from Pragmatic Play lists a bonus buy. Open a game's info screen to see what it offers.
